Think back to a time when you were a kid and had no cares in the world. Now, take that mindset and apply it to dating, because dating as a grown up is harder than dating as a kid (don't act like you know what the dating scene was like for me growing up! ke ke ke)
The first thing about dating young again is to start acting like kids again… especially near your significant other. Such as:
Playing tag or crab soccer with friends at the park during weeknights
Slide down slides whenever possible (especially if they are not "closed" slides)
Having water balloon fights with friends who need an attitude adjustment, or an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend after discovering your partner cheated on you
Surrounding yourself with fairytale fantasies and a bucket of popcorn to go see a movie about an epic love story in the theater
Spending hours playing in a children's arcade with your date who still enjoys video games
Going out for ice cream or shake shack on a double dating date with friends with kids… then watching them play in the park afterwards
Building forts with blankets when it is too hot to be outside, but you want to stay with your significant other
Go on Ferris wheel dates at carnivals when you live in the city because they are iconic Date nights should not cost anything, unless you have been dating someone from New York City and do not own a car. Then you can take public transit everywhere and still have a good time. What I mean by this dating tip is to take advantage of your surroundings and not be picky with where you end up going on a date. Even if that means frequenting the roller rink or arcade – trust me – it can work out perfectly, unless your partner hates children… like my boyfriend does (he's got some serious issues).
If you really need extra dating tips (who doesn't?) here are 15 ways dating as an adult is harder than dating as a kid:
1. You actually have bills to pay
2. Your sex drive has fizzled and may need other people's help to reignite it
3. "Netflix and chill" costs than $8 total for two people
4. Kids' movies are too predictable and boring after the first two times you watch them
5. "Netflix and chill" costs as much as a movie ticket for two people, unless you have been dating someone from New York City and do not own a car
6. You can't just go out to play or hit up the arcade without coordination plans with friends
7. If you were dating an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend before dating your current partner, they might be dating other people… which means awkward double dating nights at places where it is impossible to have a conversation with just one person at a time
8. You have more resources to find problems with each other's hobbies than finding things in common (which can be difficult enough dating as a kid)
9. Dating apps are not made for Tinder and Hinge alone – dating sites like Plenty of Fish or OkCupid make dating even harder than it already is (you're welcome).
10. You can't just go out to play and expect your partner to join you without asking first… unless they like to be spontaneous, which every adult should because that's what "dating" means
11. Disney World dates cost at least $300 per person if there isn't a special going on with the park that week
12. Days are shorter in the summer, so you have less time to spend together doing nothing but being casual
13. It's hard work trying convince an old ex-girlfriend/boyfriend to leave your current partner alone, especially if you left them for a dating app and not in person
14. You can't just go out and play without planning ahead of time who is going with you
15. You have less time to spend together dating than when dating as a kid because everyone has their own responsibilities that take up more hours in the day than ever before
So what advice do I suggest? Take advantage of everything around you and keep an open mind about dating someone new… even if they don't like the same things you love or vice versa. [Article's End] [ARTICLE START]
